There is something magical and inspirational about transforming raw material like wood into something new and useful.
Constructed with a combination of three separate wood species specifically chosen to provide simple beauty with their natural grains and color. Each of the twenty-three pieces are individually cut and sanded prior to assembly and finished with hand applied quality satin finish clear polyurethane. A keyhole has been inserted on the back to hang flat on the wall.
The woods we used are Domestic & Exotic Hardwoods:
Padauk
Maple
Red Oak
Padauk Wood, an exotic hardwood, which is the dark wood in the center of the cross. The view of the cross shows the richness of the dark color of the wood from Africa.
Maple Wood, a domestic wood, has lines and the grain are nicely defined as the middle wood in the cross. There are over 132 species of maples and this particular wood is native to North America.
Niové heartwood, an exotic wood, red-brown to orange-brown with darker brown streaks and is the outer wood on the cross. Niové Tree is native to Africa.
